Tracking Planned Gifts without the Planned Giving Module

Options
Hello,

My organization currently does not have the planned giving module in Raiser's Edge. We also do not have the funds to purchase it right now. I was going to see if anyone has any ideas/ best practices for tracking these without that module.

We use the Prospect tab, Is that the same as the planned giving module you are refering to?  We upload the signed committment to the media tab and enter the amount expected and use a long-out future date for Date Expected. There is an Action tab and Notes tab also.

That is a great question.  Our organization is in the same situation.  We are just beginning to use the proposal tab with Planned Giving as the "Purpose."  Once they have completed the execution of their gift, i.e.-updated their will, sent updated beneficiary designation, etc., then we put an expected amount with the date of acknoledgement.  And we leave the date recieved blank.  Then we know our expectancies relatively easily.  If we do not have a value estimated on the gift then we use $999 in the expected amount.

My organization does not have the proposal/planned giving module either. I track it by creating a new Campaign ID for all planned giving and then create a new Gift Subtype "Estate Plan". This way you can track and add details using the regualr GIFT tabs like Gift Noes, and Attributes etc.  The Gift amount I just use $0 as most of them are not known at this stage.

Moved discussion to Raiser's Edge Community. Thanks!

  • The way that makes the most sense to me is to use Proposals, but if you don't have the Prospect/Search/whatever module, that suggestion won't help. I used to do this as an Attribute - anyone who had a planned gift was part of a planned giving society, so they had that society as an attribute, with the type of gift as the Description, the date we were made aware of it as the date, and anything else (like whether or not it had been realized) in the Comments.

  • I contacted the RE Chat folks and they helped me a bit. I was also going with your idea, which is to use the Gift Subtype field in Gifts. We do have an idea (not exact amount) of how much the 'pledge' will be from the donor, so I enter that amount with the Gift Subtype of "Future Legacy/Planned Gift". I also use the "Held" field instead of "Active" in the Status/Date field on the pledge, with Send Reminders unchecked. Our donors want to see we recognize their planned amount, so in a Giving History report, I pull the Gift Subtype noting this is not an exact pledge amount. I had no idea there was a 'Prospect Gift' module. But if this works okay, we'll stay with it and see how it plays out for our Annual Report (removing that specific Gift Subtype). Nice to see others are having some of the same issues!
