Gift Detail Report - Export into Excel

Does anyone know the best way to export a Gift Detail Report into Excel so that the data comes over cleanly? When I do it, the spacing is off - there are merged cells - it takes quite a lot of time to format so that it can be easily manipulated. I tried the "data only" export and it still required some shifting of headers and deleting of columns, etc.

Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michaela-

Export the file as a CSV, not Excel. You'll get a bunch of columns at the begining and the end of the spreadsheet which you can delete. It should be obvious which columns can be deleted. You'll have to add in your own column headers, but those headers are actually in the columns of useless data you just deleted so you can copy them from there.

I sometimes export Canned reports to Crystal, take out the unwanted sections in Design and then export from there to Excel.

Hi Brenda-

Just a heads-up that for those of us that are hosted, Excel 8.0 Extended from the Gift Detail and Summary report (the solution you mentioned over here) is no longer an option.

Excel 8.0 Extended is not an option for me either. Here is my workaround:

1. When exporting choose Crystal report.

2. In the Crystal report design tab you delete the 2 "Space saver" fields (in details a) and move "Description" (its the names) to that spot instead.

It will still have spaces in the preview. But don't worry ;-)

3. Go to File/ Export Report - Export Option Excel- Data only with the attached settings.
