Board Presentation

Hello!

I am in a new role at a hospital and I have been asked to present at the next Foundation Board Meeting. I am a little nervous as 1. I have never presented in front of 20+ people before nevermind a board and 2. I don't know where to begin on RE discussion. (PS I have been a BB/RE user for 8 years)

Before I go into my top priorities in my role, I have to Introduce RE to the board all of which have probably never heard about BB/RE.

Please help me, how would I go about presenting RE to the board-carefully and quickly?!

Thank you!!!

  • Julie:  Can you tell me what your title is?  I may have a presentation you can use but just need to know more information about what you do and what you need to talk about regarding RE.

  • So my first question would be, do they really want to learn something about RE, or do they want to learn some insights that you can provide from them from RE?

If they want to know about RE (what it's for, why the organization is paying for it, etc.) it may be useful to talk to your Blackbaud rep. If, however, they want to see some insights about donor pipeline, average gift size, fundraising categories, then it's time to generate some numbers, maybe put together a short PowerPoint deck, and go over your ideas with your boss.
  • HI Christine~

My title is Sr. Development Coordinator (database and donor communications manager).   I want to give a brief summary of what RE is and my top 3 priorities..I can't even say my name in our meetings without getting nervous!!

  • Thank you, Ryan. My VP mentioned starting off the discussion with, "What is RE", then discuss my/our top 3 priorities.  I'd like to keep it short and sweet. We are a small shop and I'm going last.  I don not have to discuss numbers since that's the Annual Giving Officer's role.

  • Julie:  I've attached the powerpoint I did for the Institutional Advancement Committe (which is one of the Regent sub-committees).  This is about 6 years old but may help to give you a starting point.
  • Thank you, Christine!

Keep us posted on how it goes once you do have your presentation!  Just remember to breathe (seriously, you can forget) and remember that they are regular people who put their pants on one leg at a time like most everyone else.  Be concise and to the point, but be prepared to answer questions should they ask.  You will do great!!!
