Well this largely depends on what it is that you and your team in Development Operations do. To my knowledge, "Developement Operations" isn't a standard department with predictable functions, so explain a little more about what your role actually is and we might have some better ideas on the metrics that could be useful to you and the braoder development team.

I agree with the other commentors that it depends upon what your shop does. I've done a lot of metricization on our gift processing operations over the years. It's impossible to establish a metric for every factor that impacts their work, but we've had success in getting a good perspective on trends and activity with the following tracked areas by user per day, week, month, and year:

Number of Gift records added
Number of Constituent records added
Number of Relationship records added
Number of Action records added
Number of Participant records added
Number of receipts (and/or Donor Acknowledgement Letters) generated

From these and a few other metrics, we are able to see the average number of gift records we enter per year, month, week, and day; the trends over time are helpful to see. I've done calculations on number of staff needed to substantiate the need for our gift processing head count. My calculations have also been helpful in projecting how many days it will take for us to enter a certain number of gift records based on entry speed and staffing levels. I have created grids we plug these numbers into to figure out when we will be through entry for specific gift dates so we can answer questions about receipting and fulfillment for good donor stewardship. I'm in the process of developing Queries and Reports around metrics for our parts of our Fundraising Operations; this next effort will be around upper level membership and major gifts.
