OLX online gifts and the email provided by donor

Options
I don't know if this is something that others who use RE come up against, but I'm trying to find a way within RE to export the email that the donor provided when they made an online gift.  Essentially, what I'm trying to get to is being able to cite in an Export Mail Merge that particular email address and saying, "this letter is not a receipt, your receipt what mailed to XXX@XXX.com".

This is an easy process if this donor has only one email address; I can handle that.  What I come up against is when the donor is, for example, a director of our foundation and has multiple addresses on file and asked that a particular one be used primarily.  Yet, the director donated online and the gift's receipt was sent to one of their non-primary addresses.  So, if I want to do an export and say "this letter is not a receipt, your receipt what mailed to XXX@XXX.com" in my merge document I'm not finding an data fields in RE that would look for the email address provided for a particular online gift.  Right now I just head to the email copy I was sent following the transaction and copy and paste from there into the merged document.

I have a feeling this is not something the system can do, but it's worth a shot to ask.

  • While you can edit your export to include only specific Email Types, I don't think there's a way to default importing an email address from an OLX form to a specific type. It defaults to "Email", or whatever you use as your primary type, and only if it doesn't match that email on the record do you then have the option of importing it - but even then it will go in as the primary type.

The only workaround I can think of is this: As you process the gifts from OLX, open the constituent record and add the email they used as a new email type named "OLX Acknowledgement" or something. If they used their primary email address, then just copy and paste from within the record. If they used a different email address, then copy from the transaction record and paste into the constituent record. Then edit your export to include only this email type. It's a little bit of extra work, but it will give you what you want.
