Chrome & Citrix plugin

Options
When logging in to our hosted environment this morning, I got a popup message from Chrome stating that the Citrix plugin would soon be no longer supported.  I know this is related to Google phasing out support of the NPAPI protocol.  What's happening to address this?  Will we need to move from using Chrome to another browser?  Hoping not, since our institution relies on Gmail and GoogleApps for Business.

thanks for any insight,

Katie

  • Our organization also uses Google but we've found that the Mozilla Firefox actually works better for Citrix.  We set this browser to default to the Citrix login panel so it is easier to use and this is the only thing anyone uses the browser for.  Like you, we prefer Chrome BUT our problems significantly reduced when we made this change to Mozilla Firefox for Citrix.

  • Hi Katherine. Thanks for the question! You’re right, Chrome recently announced they would eventually be phasing out the support of NPAPI plugins entirely, which is the technology the latest Citrix plugins are on.  One of the latest Chrome updates actually forced users to make a manual change in the browser in order to continue using the Citrix receiver now, but Chrome is also expecting to totally disable this technology in September, so this issue is definitely on our radar.

Citrix is working on a new client that doesn’t require NPAPI technology, hopefully before Chrome’s deadline.

We will be sending out communications closer to September with tips/options to manage this change.

Thank you, this is helpful to know. I'll be on the lookout -- September is practically here...!

  • This is the general chrome issue. Various issues arise while using the chrome.  ERR_SPDY_PROTOCOL_ERROR is one of them. It always shows This webpage is not available. Chrome users can’t access certain websites affected by this error.  Last day when I am using the chrome browser this error pop-up again and again. I restart my system and clear the history of chrome but unable to solve the issue. Then I visit Fix Err Spdy Protocol Error for the solution. I found the best solution and follow all the steps mentioned on the site to solve the issue.
