What are best practices for restricting access to RE for volunteers?

We have had many volunteers and consultants come and go in our company during times of staff turnover. We currently have one volunteer who has been asked to help with fundraising efforts. However, there is a concern about giving him access to RE and constituent/donor records. What are best practices for restricting access to RE for volunteers?

  • I would start with creating a Volunteer Confidentiality form (see attached) for them to sign when they begin volunteering. For RE, in Security, I would create a Basic login group for volunteers that is very limited to just the areas they will be working in. Don't allow them to delete records, export, or go to any section they aren't going to need to access. For example, block them from the Prospect tab, etc.
