I think it's interesting that the percentage of folks on e-mail lists that donated went up, even though open and click-through rates are down. I'm interested to see what that means for the future of e-mail marketing.

    Hey Caleb,

We like to compare year over year data. There seems to be some data that was in the 2015 or 2016 reports and not in the 2017 reports (i.e. total # of emails sent).

Is the raw data from this report available to be shared?

Hilary - message me directly with the specific info you're looking for. We don't share the raw data but I can pull the specific charts/tables you need if we've got them. Kathryn

I have to say, I was most excited about the trend toward sustainer giving - big growth in recurring revenue. I like the fact that this gives a relatively stable revenue base that can grow over time. This trend correlates nicely with growth of "subscription economy" and is aided and abetted by new tools like credit card updater service that "fixes" credit card info when it changes. We'll feature several webinars this year (look for them under "Events" tab in this Community in the coming days as soon as I get them posted) on best practices and case studies for growing your sustainer program.

I thought it was pretty bananas to see that Healthcare has 41.7% of its housefile donating.

I noticed that there were figures on YOY change in clickthrough/open/action, but I didn't see what the baseline stat was anywhere. DId I just miss that?

  • Jeremy, while the report doesn't provide a baseline performance percentage for all emails, it does break email performance down by three email campaign types, fundraising, newsletter, and "other" - these types self-classified by organizations as they set up email messages.

    For Fundraising emails:
    • Page 41 covers YOY change
    • Page 42 covers email engagement rates across verticals with industry median at the bottom of each column
    For Newsletter emails:
    • Page 43 covers YOY change
    • Page 44 covers email engagement rates across verticals with industry median at the bottom of each column
    • Page 45 covers email engagement rates across housefile sizes
    For "Other" emails:
    • Page 46 covers YOY change
    • Page 47 covers email engagement rates across verticals with industry median at the bottom of each column
    • Page 48 covers email engagement rates across housefile sizes
For hard totals on total number of emails sent, total clicks, etc, you might also message Katheryn Hall directly for these figures.

Jeremy, my suspicion, knowing the orgs that comprise the Healthcare vertical, is that it reflects some on the nature of peer-to-peer fundraising. While we exclude orgs with 90% or more of revenue from TeamRaiser, that still leaves a big universe of orgs that are strong P2P fundraisers.
