Adios, Community - or not??
I've handed in my resignation from the tribal college where I work. I'm heading off into consulting land and will not only miss all of you and your incredibly helpful posts, but will also probably still need you! Does anyone know a way for someone not working for a specific RE-using organization to still stay in the loop? I hope to have a gig pretty soon with a college that needs some big-time help with RE, but I won't be an employee and presumably not the administrator. Any advice will be appreciated!
And to those of you who do not have some advice to offer me, thanks a million for being part of my nerd support group over the recent years. My six years in RE have been wonderful for me, and you've all helped make me a better user. Nerd on!!!

Hi Gracie, not sure about how to stay involved with the Community but there is also a RE group on Facebook. Search for "The Raiser's Edge Users Group Support Forum"
Hope to see you there!4 -

GracieCongrats on your new role, Gracie! Super exciting! I love seeing good news like this
To stay in the loop with the Community, you can create an account on www.blackbaud.com with a personal email (or new work email if you're comfortable with that) to still be able to use the Community by logging in. We don't need you to be associated with an organization to use the Community - anyone can access our site.
There are a few consultants who may be able to show you the ropes on how to leverage the Community now that you're in your new role. Thank you for being part of the Blackbaud Community!

Thank you for being part of the Blackbaud Community! Thanks for your help! I was going to contact Ed Hohlbein, who is a personal friend, to see how he got onto the community, but I wanted to say farewell to everyone else. Looks like now I won't have to lose all this help and support! Great news! Now if only I could figure out how to get the Professional Certification without classes.......
Happy New Year!

Assuming you still have access to your current organization email and Blackbaud Account, instead of creating a new account, change your email address on BB.com (which changes it on your Community account). Then you don't lose your posts, comments, bookmarks, connections, etc. in the Community. Don't forget that your logins for the Idea Banks are separate from BB.com/Community. Be careful when you do this, as I created a big mess when I did it 2 years ago, but Holly sorted me out and I didn't lose anything which was great!10

Best wishes to you on your new endeavor Gracie!!0

Thanks, Jen - I'll schedule it for my next to last day next week. I don't think I have anything in the Idea Bank (well, not the BB one, anyway!) so that won't be a problem. And what a coincidence that the top story in today's feed was all about certification! I'm going to stay late a couple nights to reveiw stuff from the course abstracts for the Pro certification test and try and take that asap!
All these useful answers and great support tell me that 2018 is going to be awesome!!! Thanks to all my fellow data geeks out there.3 -
You can change your email now. Your account will still be linked to your organization's account until they remove you. Might be good to do it now in case you have problems.
Good luck with the certification tests! I did the same last year, took them all right before I left. Be aware that you must take & pass the Badge Exams and then wait a day or two (I think) until the full exam becomes available. You can take the tests twice, so you might take them right away and if you don't pass, you'll still have a bit of time left to study up and try again. I doubt you'll have any problems passing. And it's definitely good to take the full exam shortly after completing the Badge Exams, because the questions are similar (although I remember one that seemed to be very similar but were worded differently enough to have a different answer, so read carefully!).2 -

I left my old job without changing anything and they were able to link my two accounts (for a while I was friends with 'myself' from before). Bookmarks and things transferred.
Best of luck!

Thanks, Jen, but now I'm really confused. I thought you couldn't take the Badge exams without the classes and for that you need a learn subscription! I printed out the course abstracts and was going to stay late a couple nights (or VPN in over the weekend) to poke around in the sections mentioned. From the descriptions, I'm ready on about 80% of the topics, but we don't do much with actions, for example, so I'm pretty out of practice.
Holly, or someone else from BB - any comments on this? I think you could use my professional services to write up better explanations of the process!1 -
I took the badge exams and eventually got my bCRE-pro without taking the classes. My org. didn't have a learn subscription and taking the classes otherwise was not in the budget. If you are a blackbaud champion though you can redeem your points for classes or the exams themselves. Good luck!2
-
I believe to take the Badge Exams, you must have either passed the Fundamentals Exam OR taken the classes. This statement is on the registration page for the badge exams: Alternatively, if you feel you possess the knowledge essential for managing fundraising in Raiser’s Edge, you can attempt the exam without completing the required courses. You must pass the Raiser’s Edge Fundamentals Exam before you’re eligible to take this badge exam.1

Thanks, Claudia - as soon as the crazy of trying to teach my colleagues everything they need to know in RE before this Friday (REALLY not going to happen!) is over, I'll start adding that to the homework for a couple online classes as the "educational" component of my personal schedule. And yes, Jen, I've already got the bCRE-Fundamentals exam under my belt. I know I've learned a lot since then, especially from the Community. Thanks a million, everyone!2

GracieThank you for posting this Gracie and for everyone else's comments. This has inspired me to try for the certification this year also despite having no budget for lessons.
Good luck in your new posting, Gracie - hope the transition goes smoothly!
