report for donor and his/her family foundation/organization

Options
Some of our donors have both constituents - individual and family foundation or (owner/organization). Basically they are one donor. How can report their total amount( total gifts from individual and gifts from family foundation or total gifts from owner and gifts from corporation)? We have quite a lot this kind donors, so we cannot report one by one. What's the best practice to record this type of record: combine two records in one or records them as two records?

    Hi Catherine!

We deal with this as well and what we do is have the two records but soft credit the gifts from the foundation to the individual donor.  So if the check comes in from the foundation the individual is soft credited.  For reporting we pull all gifts, including soft credited ones - either in a summary of gifts or an indidivual gift export depending upon how detailed a report you need to send the donor.

Ditto, two records & soft credits.

Ditto to both Joanne and JoAnn - 2 records, soft credit everything to the individual one, and then report from the individual record, pulling the soft credit onto the recipient.

  • Thank you everyone. Some of donors do want to solicit company/foundation instead of individual as well as recognition.

In report, we cannot simplify to say only pull individual or foundation/company only.

My first thought on this would be to handle that this way, when you're pulling the list for solicitation purposes:  Create of query that includes both, probably a constituent query - in the query options, mark for the soft credits to pull in both records - then subtract the foundations/companies that you've marked as do not mail using a specific solicit code or your generic do not mail solicit code.  This should leave you both records where it's applicable, and hopefully, if your data is clean enough, not be too much work.

We have food drive ( team fundraising) time to time, and we soft credit individual donation to food drive organizer(fundraiser). I cannot figure out in report on how to separate these two type of soft credit gift in report. 1) Donor total (donation) with 2 constituents (individual file and foundation); 2) team fundraisers total (collection fund from all team members). We need two different reports from two different sources

If I'm understanding you, which I'm actually a bit unsure about, sounds to me like you might want to investigate using packages within your appeals to help with gift grouping, or Solicitor relationships.  Is it possible for you to give us an example with ficitious names and amount(s)?  I'm just having trouble understanding what you're trying to say there and I believe that would help.
