Recording a gift of "something" in our school's honor

I would appreciate some help.

A constituent purchased the "Gift of an Ark" from Heifer International in our school's honor. I would love some advice on how to record it.

Thanks!

I would put that in as an in kind gift if at all.

If the gift was "in honor of your school" and you received no $ or in-kind gift I don't know that I'd record it at all. Trying to read between the lines and it sounds like they made a gift in your honor to another organization.

If you physically receive an "Ark" then GIK.
  • I was struggling with the idea of recording it as an in-kind gift. I like the idea of making a note of the gift in our honor.

    Thanks!

Ditto JoAnn and Joanne's advice - record in the Notes tab instead, and then perhaps do your thank you letter under an Action or on the Media tab.

  • I agree with everyone above to not do it as GIK since it wasn't to you.  We have faculty and students who are honored with gifts not to us, but closely tied to our mission (like gifts to the chapel, or a research org, etc.)  We have the Prospect tab and record this is as a note as well as Gifts to other organizations.  Since we don't generally track 'gifts to other orgs', this is a clean way for us to see which donors have us on their minds even when they aren't writing us a check.
