NetCommunity donations transactions overwrite demographics information when processed by batch

Options
Hi,

When we process transactions by batch through the NetCommunity plugin this does not work as describe in this article : https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/104463

Demographics information from NetCommunity donation transactions as address, phones, emails overwrite the existing information in Raiser's Edge.

Did someone has the same issue ?

  • are you processing gifts manually or through batch? either way, there is a way to avoid this problem.

ha ha... laughing at myself. I just re-read your post and see that you said by batch. sorry about that.

so when you process by batch, flip over to the options tab and uncheck the box for "create new records automatically" and then check the box that says "reject profile updates". However, in doing so, you definitely will need to put your eyes on each record while linking them up to see if there are any changes that you DO want to keep.

  • By batch and manually. But I think I found the way to avoid the problem when processing by batch:

Do you know if there is a way to check the option "Reject profile updates" by default?

    Thanks

  • I don't believe so. have been using this method for about 3 years, and I have to change it every time. if you find a way to change the default, please share!
  • I chatted with blackbaud support and there is
not way to set a default.

Why would you NOT want the information your donors give you to update the database?  In many cases our donors add a business address, when that happens I open the constituent record from the plug-in, make the business address the preferred address save and close the record and then process the donation keeping the "accept profile information" checkbox checked.  If the next time they go in and give me their home address instead, I just do the same thing, open the record from the plug-in and make what ever address needs to be primary so the profile information matches that in the plug-in.  Yes, it makes for a little longer processing, but information that is provided by the donor is priceless.  This is a perfect situation for the idea bank https://community.blackbaud.com/products/netcommunity/ideas. I looked and there are at least 2 ideas "in review" that discuss the address issue https://bbnc.ideas.aha.io/ideas/NETCOM-I-36 and https://bbnc.ideas.aha.io/ideas/NETCOM-I-114.  Log in and VOTE for these ideas.

Assuming that NetCommunity works the same way as OLX, I usually don't want the information the donor provides to overwrite what is in RE already.  Because if RE has Zip+4 and the donor types in only a 5-digit zip, OLX/NC wants to "update" the zip to remove the +4.  Or if the donor types in their information in all lowercase or all caps, OLX/NC would be "updating" RE to that, and then I'd have to go back and fix it.  If they type in a new address, then yes, that would be something to update...but I usually prefer to do that manually, or at least check to see if that "new" address is already on the record as an alternate address.  Automatically importing all information submitted by the donor isn't ever what I prefer...tends to make more of a mess in the database.

That's what we do ;) We prefer do the updates manually. Thanks for sharing your experience.

We WANT the information from our donors but we prefer manually do the demographic updates to keep data integrity, data and formatting logics, etc... in the address data entry. We have a team dedicated for doing that and they do a great job ! We want to maintain a nice and clean database.

I will also get examples of donors typing everything into their online donation in lower case, which is not what we want to flow over to our RE database.  So, like the others, I review first to see if anything does truly need to transfer over, but then I do it manually if it's desired.
