OLX Form bandwith?

Options
Not sure if that's the right word.  BUT we have our first CMNH Radiothon coming up next month.  We are hoping to run as many of these donations through OLX as possible. It will be a mix of one-year pledges and one-time donations.  Does anyone have experience with using a single OLX form simulatenously by multiple people?  I've been told it's about 300-400 gifts in a 12-hour period, but there will be up to 10 or so people answering phones at any time.

Can anyone reassure me OLX won't implode during those two days? (I'm planning on creating a few back up forms too, but still.)

  • I'm not sure the exact answer to your question, since we've never had that much traffic with our forms. Obviously, as a website form it can handle multiple people. A more direct route might be to enter the gifts directly into your BBMS Merchant Services virtual terminal (which powers the OLX credit card forms) and run the payments through there. This is what we do with our events, and we have had 3 users running gifts simultaneously with about 100 donors in an hour span.

Or, if you have the EFT module, you could have your people enter the gift information in Batch, and then process the batch through BBMS. BBMS does instant processing for batches of up to 25 gifts; larger than that, and it caches them in queue which can take much longer to process depending on system load.
  • Thanks for the response!  Unfortunately,
I’m looking for something as easy as possible since most of the
calls will be answered by volunteers.  Add in that many will
be pledges, too, and I’m hoping we can make it work through
    OLX….

  • Then your best bet might be to test it, if you have enough time before your event and a "slow" period when you don't expect gift traffic on your website. Create a dummy form, set your BBMS account to "demo mode", and then have your development staff go crazy trying to overload the system as fast as possible to see what it can handle. smiley  Then post your results here so we know how it went!

    Hi Steph,

Glad to hear you are planning on using OLX for your big event. I'm sure lots of other orgs can comment on their experience on high volume days like Giving Tuesday and EOY where thousands of donations flow in during short periods of time.

One thing I will point out: If your organization is planning on having the people who answer the phones fill out the form you'll want to let our Blackbaud Merchant Services team know ahead of time. Since a large number of donations will be coming from the same IP address but using different cards (what would typically be viewed as irratic or suspicious behavior) we will want to whitelist your IP address. As long as you can let our team know ahead of time I believe you should be set up for success!

    Hope this helps!

    Best,

    Grace
