Font Issues with Crystal Reports

Options
Hi everyone,

We recently updated to 7.96 from 7.93 and noticed that when we run Custom Reports sometimes the font changes/distorts from how it looks when we are writting within Crystal Reports. For example, we have a report set to Calibri 10 and all looks okay within Crystal Reports, but once someone runs it out fo Custom Reports in Raiser's Edge, periods disappear into the previous letter, letters sometimes overlap, and it looks messy.

Has anyone had this problem or figured out a solution?

Thanks,

Corbett

    Crystal 2008

  • From https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/96519

When run through RE 7.95[6], Crystal Reports created in Crystal 8.5 will be converted to Crystal XI, preventing them from being opened with Crystal 8.5. For this reason, we recommend upgrading to Crystal XI before upgrading Raiser's Edge to 7.95[6].

I think you'll need to upgrade your reports by opening them in XI and then saving them.

  • In RE database view go to Tools > User Options > Reports > Fonts. Select Times New Roman as the font and 10 as the point size for all. Save user options. Now as that user with those options run the crystal report inside of RE and custom Reports’ Fonts (Calibri, etc) should override the default.

Crystal 2008 is a newer version than XI. I didn't think this applied?

    This didn't work unfortunately.

  • I wouldn't go up to a version higher than the one supplied by BB - that may cause issues.

We had other issues producing reports with XI and moved to 2008. We never had problems with using it with RE.

I did produce the report with XI and have the same problems with fonts. As I'm testing, it is only with some of our reports and not others (all using the same type and size).

The upgrade to 7.94, 7.95 or 7.96 (I can't remember which) changed the "engine" that runs the Crystal Reports.  I haven't been able to identify which version of CR that RE now uses internally for generating reports.  You might be able to glean that information by looking at the file information of the DLL files for Crystal that are installed by RE.  There were many font issues reported around the time the upgrade was released.  I seem to remember that 32 versus 64 bit printer drivers were also a factor.
