We would like to know how others handle old attribute codes for a committee/board, etc. where the committe/board is no longer in existence.  We don't want to lose the history of those who have served on these committees.  If someone sees the description on a person's record, we don't want it look like it is a current board they are serving on. .  Even though we have  marked the check box for "inactive" in the attribute table the description of an attribute still shows on  a record and on a profile.. We want a way to show that while the person served ,  the committee/board is no longer in existence.  We are limited to the character spacing in the description and are trying to find a way to say that these are no longer in existence in an understandable way.

    I just change the name to "name - inactive."

    If you're open to using something other than Attributes, I would create an Org record called "Radford University Board Members" and relate everyone to that Org using their start and end dates and use the Relationship Type Former Member.

    If you have the Volunteer Module, that's where I've always stored this information...as Job Assignments.  Otherwise, I think I would be inclined to use Relationships as Aaron suggested.  Gina Gerhard also uses Relationships and has posted about it at length/detail in other threads in the Community (a very well-thought-out plan).

    If you prefer to stick to Attributes, then we simply have one attribute for "Board Members" and a different attribute for "Former Board", linked to a table with a list of the available Boards. The Attribute date is used for the end date of their term. That being said, I like the date functionality of using Relationships, as well as the fact that by opening the Board's constituent record, you would gain an instant view of all affiliated members.

    Like Jen, we now use the volunteer module; however, prior to that, we used Constituency Codes and added an end date when they were no longer on the Board or Committee

    change the code name to have a z. in front of the code name: example  Dolphin Committee becomes z.Dolphin Committee.  You keep the history but the Attribut will sort to the bottom of the list in any output and on the Attributes Tab.  And while you are putting the z on it in Config you can also push it to the bottom of the list.

    we use "Current"/"Previous" on Constituent/Attributes/Comments as an indicator, for the detail of committe/board info we record them in Constituent/Notes; use Org relationship is a good idea for recording detail of committe/board info.

    If you can't do what Christine suggests about adding the z to the beginning of the name, then perhaps there's a note that could be globally added to the comments field of that attribute.
