How do you handle Relationship Duplicates

Options
Hello RE Community - I am looking to find out how other organizations handle Relationship Duplicates.  It is not uncommon for us to create an Individual Relationship for the same person multiple times because of their Relationship to the org.  Ex.  Bob Smith is the contact for B.Smith Family Foundation.  He has 4 relationship records in the B.Smith Family Foundation and each Relationship is different.  He is tagged as Donor, Officer Executive, Board Member, & Employee.    The Officer Executive Individual Relationship is linked with his Constituent Relationship.  I have some ideas on this, but I want to get your thoughts first.

  • Hey Ron,

Are you using the different relationship types for specific purposes (i.e. pulling lists, queries, etc.)?  Just wondering why it is important to have someone as a relationship that many times.

At the most we have an individual as a relationship on an organization record twice and that is because we have a specific relationship type for corp mailings and if the person also needs to be listed as the corp/foundation type we list them as that as well

Hey Joanne - it's good to hear from you.  I will look through some of our relationship queries, but I don't recall pulling a query by relationship types.  I think we have too many relationship records and need to clean this up, but I wanted to get some input from other orgs, before I bring this up to my co-workers.  Thank you for your input - it is appreciated.  BTW, I hope all is well.
