Constituent Codes Question

Options
Hello all,

My team is currently going through our constituent codes in Raiser’s Edge (RE) 7/ NXT, and we are trying to create a constituency code for constituents who are not affiliated with the law school but have a RE record because they may be a new prospect, or a plus one at an event, or just unaffiliated first time donor, etc. In my past organizations, I have marked these constituents with the constituent code ‘Individual’, but some members of my team are not too fond of this constituent code because they see it as redundant because their record key indicator is ‘Individual’.

So what have you all coded unaffiliated constituents with your organization but have a RE record because they may be a new prospect, or a plus one at an event, or just unaffiliated first time donor, etc.?

  • Hi Jonathan,

I guess it depends on what is important to your organization in terms of queries/grouping people, etc.

We use Donor and NonDonor and have attributes to dig deeper

  • Hi,

We are just setting up Raiser's Edge and will be using Prospective Volunteer and Prospective Donor for those not yet involved.

  • We use the generic term "Friend" for individuals that you describe.  We can always pull queries to figure out who is a donor and non-donor (and that definition may change slightly over time) so we keep it pretty simple.  We're a university, so we also have codes like: Alumnus/a, Current Parent, Past Parent, Student, Employee, etc.....

I personally have never understood the Constit Codes Individual and Organization for the same reason your team states, it's redundant and tells you nothing about the affiliation that person/org has with your Org.

Have always gone with establishing a hierarchy of Constit Codes. And if a record has more than one, then you have a protocol in place as to which is the primary based on that established hierarcy of important to your Org.

with those low end affiliations where you are not sure how yet or they are affilated through someone else I have always used Friend and Friend of Friend in Our Community.  And for those that are only affiliated because they are the spouse of our Donor/Constituent and that constituent is no longer alive I do have a Widow/er of Alum when in an educational setting.
