Use a vanity URL / hide the secure3.convio.net that pops up on Luminate forms ?

Options
Is there a way to hide the secure3.convio.net URL text that comes on each of the Luminate forms? We'd rather have it be our website's name, since many folks will be paying attention to this, especially when making a donation online. If I were them, I'd be asking, "What's convio?"

There must be a way to change it to a vanity URL, right? American Diabetes Association uses Blackbaud and their URL is this: https://donations.diabetes.org/site/Donation2;jsessionid=00000000.app243b?df_id=19705&mfc_pref=T&19705.donation=form1&loc=dorg_header-donate-now&s_src=dorg&s_subsrc=header-donate-now&NONCE_TOKEN=B746A4DD2F0DC56DD04F37D8E5829D3D

Ideally, we could hide ALL of the tracking tokens etc and have a URL like theirs: donations.diabetes.org -- and that's it.

How do we go about this? (Is it under URL shortcuts...? or somewhere else?)

    Hi Sarah,

    This can be done but it requires that you have a secure subdomain. When a secure resource is served by secure2 or secure3, the security certificate is provided by Blackbaud. If you want to use a secure custom subdomain, you will need to purchase a SSL certificate for your organization and have Blackbaud install and maintain the certificate. Your Customer Success Manager or Account Executive can help start this process for you.

    So just to be clear, if we take those steps, we could technically have "donate.drugfree.org" as our URL for all donation forms?

    (And any idea why this option wasn't presented when we signed on? Any ideas you have would be helpful.)

    Yes. Though it is worth noting that all of your Luminate pages would be served with this secure subdomain. So donate.drugfree.org would appear on any advocacy, event, survey, etc. pages. I've seen organizations use support, secure, give and donate as their secure subdomain (I'm sure there are others as well).
  • Also, don't forget that you'll have to pay Blackbaud a set-up fee, and then a yearly fee to maintain the domain/sub-domain.
  • It looks like you're also interested in removing all those tracking tokens that appear after the base URL...I'm no expert here, but I don't think you can remove them. You can replace the "secure3.convio.org" with "donate.myorg.org", but I think the tracking parameters would still need to display after that base URL.  Make sure you double check this before you get serious about making the domain switch.
  • https://donations.diabetes.org/site/Donation2;jsessionid=00000000.app243b?df_id=19705&mfc_pref=T&19705.donation=form1&loc=dorg_header-donate-now&s_src=dorg&s_subsrc=header-donate-now&NONCE_TOKEN=B746A4DD2F0DC56DD04F37D8E5829D3D
    Most of that URL is not tracking or anything like that. Some, like df_id controls which page or form is displaying. That's just how Luminate works.

    The green ones refer to the user's current session and are assigned when the user visits the page. Those should not be part of URL links that you use, they get added automatically for each user.

    The ones in red here ARE tracking. The s_src and s_subsource values are usually manually added to links on your site and emails to track where the user came from. Here you track which link on your site got the donation. (Does the header or sidebar link get the most donations? Perhaps the header link should be larger.) We put similar session tags on links in solicitation emails to track the campaign and email version.

    jsessionid=00000000.app243b

    df_id=19705

    mfc_pref=T

    19705.donation=form1
    loc=dorg_header-donate-now

    s_src=dorg

    s_subsrc=header-donate-now

    NONCE_TOKEN=B746A4DD2F0DC56DD04F37D8E5829D3D

    So you could ditch all those and get down to something like https://donations.diabetes.org/site/Donation2?df_id=19705&mfc_pref=T&19705.donation=form1

    (You can even cut that to http://donations.diabetes.org/site/Donation2?df_id=19705 and it works with most forms.)

    You can set up friendly URLs that redirect to a big long URL like this using the URL shortcut system in LO for something like: http://donations.diabetes.org/givenow.

    In Luminate you can configure the default home page for your domain name. For you I see that http://donations.diabetes.org goes to a PageBuilder page named CC_Home. (Howevr I get prompted to log in, is that intentional?) You could change that so it redirects to your main donation form. Contact Support for help with that.

    Doing something like givenow.diabetes.org would be a 'subdomain' and is handled outside of LO with your DNS provider. That too could redirect to the long URL, which ultimately the user will ultimately see no matter what.
