Re 7.96 Patch 6 - Any news beyond notice it is coming?

Options
Saw the notice that hosting will be updating to RE 7.96 Patch 6 on September 26. Looking for some more information about this release...as some staff don't like change of any kind. So I always prefer to give a "heads up" when possible.

Has anyone heard anything beyond the Scheduled Maintenance notice?

Thanks

  • Hey Joan! Great question.

JoAnn's link is a great resource and similar KB's are created for each and every new patch.

Raiser's Edge has moved to a pre-planned, bi-monthly patching schedule this year. This patch is the September edition of that planned patching schedule. There were similar patches applied in January, March, May, and July. There will be another patch in November.

The goal is to establish a regular cadence so organizations like yours will know when to expect updates. There may be times where we have to release a patch on one of the "off months" if a critical fix/change is needed, but so far this year that scenario has not presented itself (which is great!).

The changes in these patches are pretty non-disruptive so I wouldn't worry too much about the patch introducing too much change. But please do let me know if you see a way for this patching process to be less disruptive or alarming moving forward! We will always have a need to patch updates into RE, but if there is a better way for us to inform users I'm all ears!

This was a laudable experiment with quarterly patches, but it seems to have failed spectacularly with the buggy/aborted 7.96 Patch 6 and vaporware Patch 7 that should have been released more than a month ago.
