Providing a comment field in registration

Has anyone used a comment field in the registration portion of an event.   I'm hosting a dinner for our Hall of Honor and honorees want to have registrants note that they want to sit with a specific honoree.  I'm not sure how to do that without knowing who belongs to who.  Thanks for any suggestions you may have!

    Hi Cheryl,

To set this up, you would use Participant Attributes: https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/53050

The attribute gets linked to the Registrant (person making the transaction). The Registrant may register for additonal Participants, who are then entered in as Guests in your event module.

Guests registered by a Registrant automatically populate as "Guest Of" and do not have a constiuent record created for them. If you add a Participant Attribute, each participant would get a field added for them on the form. For example:

Mom registers for three children. You want to know those three childrens ages. Adding a Participant attribute and making it required will have one extra line under each registration asking for each childs age. The user cannot finish the transaction without filling every field. Keep in mind, if you are having Mom register for the event as well you will also force Mom to enter HER age and capture that information as well.

If you are not expecting multiple registrants per form, you can add an Event Attribute: https://www.blackbaud.com/files/support/howto/coveo/crm/tkGLBEditAnEventAttribute.html

You can name this attribute something like "Special requests or comments" and then set the data type to "text". You can rename the attribute to something more specific on your event form proper: such as "Please seat me next too..."

I created a Participant Query that only has "EventID <ask>". Then I created a new Participant Export and plugged in this Query. I built out the export as seen below. We don't always use every attribute, but this made it easy to keep track of what was in use. When you click Export, the system will ask you for your Event ID and only export participants linked to that event. You can also use "One Of" and select multiple events. Make sure you are linking gifts with your constituents when entering registrations manually as well.
