Phone # format in Reports

Options
I currently have all my phone number in the "(555) 555-5555" fomat.  When I pull reports some of the phone numbers show us as 5555555555.  Any idea why it's not putting in the right format in reports, but shows fine in their records?

  • Hi Adam-

That's a Phone Type Format in Config. If you were to choose the Format <NONE> you would not see the parentheses nor dashes in Raiser's Edge. See the screenshot below. In other databases I've seen this referred to as a Field Mask.

  • There was an issue after 7.95/96 where phone numbers that were entered originally with formatting that was incorrect (maybe they were entered as 555123-4567) would show up in the record correctly because of the config format Aaron pointed out but would export with the incorrect information. One way to fix this would be to export all phone numbers (along with the import ID for each number), find all the messed up ones, remove all formatting, and import them as updates. This will allow the RE formatting rules to work on them as you'd expect.

Or if there aren't that many, you can just change them by hand over time and slowly fix the problem.
