How can I find constituents who never open our emails?

Options

I want to clean up our constituent list by removing individuals who never open our emails. How do I identify these individuals.  I tried to run a query but couldn't find any parameters that seemed like they would give me this information.

  • I'm also interested in this answer. I tried using the engagement score tool through the tasks menu. However I encountered an error, currently have a ticket open for the issue.

I was able to get the website engagement score working though. Here's the guide I used:

Just found this guide in another thread,

Thanks so much. I have tried both of the methods you sent me but I'm still not sure that the results I am getting are correct.  What did you enter as your Engagement Factors and the weighting for the factors?

I am using Engagement Factor 1 and put in the following:

    Email Opens   Weighting 10

    That is probably not right.

I have RUN the task a few times and while it says the task has been completed I have no idea where to see the results.  Can you help with that?

I also tried to run the following Query but some of the results just don't seem right.

    Engagement Factor 1 equals 0

    AND email status equals Good

    OR email status equals Unknown

    Any suggestions?

    Chris,

    For the query, instead of,

    "Engagement Factor 1 equals 0"

    Change it to:

"Engagement Factor 1 greater than 0" or "Engagement Factor 1 equals 10"

I'd run that without any other filters on email status, just to see if you get results. From there start adding in additional criteria and see what happens.

The engagement factor score is stored on a constituents' profile in the "transaction information" section. Pull up a record that you know opened a recent email and see if there's a value in that field.

  • Hi - I've been trying this too, to get a sense of how engaged certain groups are but I run into a few problems.

    1) Try as I might, I cannot find the engagement factor listed under the transaction tab for the constituent. Has it moved/been updated since this post was written?

    2) I try running the task but it then doesn't appear in my 'to do' list. I'm missing something here!

Has anyone had any luck with this?

    Many thanks one and all!

Hi - The link above has changed:  https://www.blackbaud.com/files/support/helpfiles/luminate-online/help/luminateonline.html#../Subsystems/DataManagement/Content/Concepts/Admin_Task_Administration_RecordInfo_NewEmailResponseSegTask.html

I wonder if it would work for you to consider a reverse approach. If you run the Message Open Report in the Email module, you'll see only the constituents who've opened a message. You could then click Add results to group to make a new group consisting of only the constituents who have opened a message.

  • Our organization's Customer Success Manager sent us this article last fall when we asked about the best way to deal with this same issue. It has specific instructions for effectively using Engagement Factors.
