Using Online Express for Events with Merchandise

Options
We have an upcoming event that will have sponsorship, ticket, and merchandise (primarily t-shirts) options. Has anyone used Online Express for this? What did your registration page look like? Were various shirt sizes listed as separate items or did you use an gift attribute to capture sizing information? How did this work for people who purchased multiple shirts and sizes. If not, what Blackbaud products or other fundraising platforms do you use to set these up? All are of the options available on a single form or does merchandise have its own form? Any help or thoughts is greatly appreciated!

This is will be my first time using Online Express for registrations for our Oct Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run.  So with that caveat, I can't tell you how well this will work or not - we will see.  I used Participant Attributes to ask for Shirt Size and Gender and Gift Attributes to ask if they are walking in Honor/Memory of someone and if they are a Cancer Survivor.  For the price types for each distance they can register a max of 10 people per distance.  If they select more than 1, then the corresponding number of fields under Event Prefences ask for shirt size and gender for each participant.

Our participants don't purchase their shirts, they get them as part of their participant in the event.

This was figured out after many chat sessions with Blackbaud Online Express support.  I hope this makes sense and helps.

  • We are selling t-shirts for our event this year & this is what my form looks like: https://cs-cc.org/get-involved/registration-hike/

It's rather long, due to the options of kids, adult & hoodies. It will ask for information on each participant, but they can choose "same as billing" to populate the fields.

This is the best that I could come up with to capture what we need for our event.

Each t-shirt/hoodie is entered in my Event Units Table & then added as a Price to my Event.

    Hi Lawrence,

We have used Online Express for a couple of our fundraising events.  We do not use any attributes. We use Onlines Express to capture registrant information, shirt sizes, and gift information.  We do not use any other software.  All options are available on one form.  Here is a link to our upcoming fundraising event:  https://phsc.edu/foundation/events

then click on golf tournament, click on register.  I  have also attached it as a pdf. (this is the 1st time in the community I'm attempting to add a link - so I'm not 100% if it will work).  We don't include a receipt as we have to apply "benefits" to their online gift once it is in batch.  Please feel free to reach out to me if you need any additional information.

    Hi Shelley,

Thank you for posting the .pdf file, it helps in 'viewing' a registration.

  • We have an event where we need to sell wristbands, T-shirts and food tickets (all separately priced).  I would like to collect the T-shirt size when they register, so I set up the T-shirt as a participant attribute with a size table. Now the food ticket attribute is showing with a T-shirt size drop down table!  Shelly, since you did not use attributes, did you make all of your price points separate items, and how will they be linked to the registrant?  Katie, since you added shirts as an event unit with a price point, does the registrant enter the shirt size as free text or do you use a table?  Sandra, since your T-shirts are not purchased, it makes sense to offer them as a participant attribute where the registrant can choose their size, but if they had to purchase the shirt, would it still work as a participant attribute?  I appreciate any answers today as BB Support is limited to emergencies only due to Hurricane Florence :).
  • We used an registrant attribute.  Category:  Shirt Size; Description:  Table (with all available sizes listed within table).  We gave a shirt as part of their registration no additional fee was charged it was included in their overall quid pro quo.

When they registered for the event using Online Express we asked for their participants/registrants name and shirt size (if available at time of registration - otherwise the field(s) remained blank).
  • I just looked at our annual golf tournament using Online Express where we sell a "Super Ticket" which can be included at the time of registration.  This is located  "Registration Fees", but I don't see where an attribute is an available option.
