Remote Hosting

Options
All, other than BB does anyone use any other hosting solutions for RE/FE.  We are considering looking at remote hosting options(we are currently locally hosted) and while BB is an option they have significant limitations which would impact our overall business(ex. no sql access, automatically applies updates, not able to schedule jobs, etc).

Thanks, Dennis

  • We decided to stay hosted on site, but Concourse was an option we considered.

I am also interested in why you decided to be locally hosted.

  • We looked into off site Hosting last year, because our IT suggested we need a complete new server, at that time we had a lot of computer problems.

It turned out that changing a switch and new work stations solved the issues. We decided to keep our current setup for now and also if I recall correctly you need to be hosted by Blackbaud in order to use RENxt. Concourse provided several local references, which were very positive. Hope this helps.

  • We moved from BB hosting to Concourse and couldn't be happier!  We have our own virtual private server. We don't get bogged down or booted off.  We are able to partner with other third party vendors that Blackbaud doesn't work with.  We've never been hacked.  We choose if and when to process patches and upgrades.   The switch process was a bit challenging because we use BBNC Spark, but once through the technical stuff it's been smooth sailing. (The challenges weren't on the Concourse side)

  • Deb, thanks for the info - I have reached out to them and am awaiting to hear back.  May reach out to you to learn more specifics about your experience should we start moving with them.  Thanks, Dennis

Happy to help with any info I can provide.  Glen and his team have been fabulous..
  • We're a Concourse Hosting partner and only ever hear good things about them from clients.

There are other options such as Amazon AWS EC2 Cloud hosting where you essentially buy time on a cloud server and set it up yourself (and scale/mirror/etc it as you need). We have a demo for one of our products running Windows Server and SQL Server on an AWS EC2 instance and you'd think you right there as far as performance goes.

In terms of maintenance, from most to least: Self-hosted, Cloud, Concourse, Blackbaud.

In terms of flexibility, from most to least: Self-hosted/Cloud/Concourse, Blackbaud (no SQL, no VBA, etc).

In terms of raw cost, it's pretty much the reverse (of course).
