How to use capacity values?

Options
WealthPoint creates a "Major Giving Capacity Value" that is integrated into our Raisers Edge database. This is calculated by a formula using 5% of total wealth found. Our organization's major gift threshold is $5,000. Most of the time the "Major Giving Capacity Value" is greater than $5,000 for the prospects I've looked into. So when I'm asked if person X is capable of making a major gift, I would say yes based on this value. Am I correct to assume that because this value is greater than $5,000 that they are all major gift prospects for us based on capacity? I will research them further to define their affinity, but I want to understand how to make the best use of the capacity scores that I receive.  Thanks for your input!

  • Are you looking for annual giving capacity? As of  knowledgebase Article Number: 42332 MGCV is a prospect's pledging capacity for a five to ten year period. That means not everybody over $5000.00 MGCV in your database will have the capacity to give this amount annually.

Do you have a target gift range integrated as well?

Article Number: 42315 Target Gift Range is a ProspectPoint model that provides a suggested ask amount for philanthropic gifts to your organization.  It rates each prospect’s capacity to give based on their relationship with your organization, giving history, financial, behavioral and demographic characteristics.  The value reflects a target range for giving over a 12-month period.
