Where do you record source for prospect acquisition?

Options
All,

Where do you typically record the source from where a prospect came from (ie Board referral; event; NOZA; media source etc). I was thinking either as an attribute or in actions.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

We record our 'source' in an attribute. I think it's a great thing to do. I have found it useful many, many times when questions are raised on why that person/business is a constituent. Especially useful when there's staff turnover. Have also found by looking at that attribute when some sources have not proven to be reliable as to the data they've given us.

IMO attribute is better option than action. Do recommend a table vs. free text for querying/reporting use down the road.
  • Thank you for your response, JoAnn!

    Much appreciated.

  • 100% agree with using an attribute for this

At my previous job we tracked source as an attribute and used this to do analysis on new donors and what the renewal rate was between the largest groups of sources (web vs radio vs mail, etc.)

    Very useful!

  • Thank you, Joanne!

  • Ditto to what JoAnn and Joanne said.  Hey it's the Joannes show!  LOL

I would do it as an attribute, and also I support having the description be a table, and then add anything additional in the comments field.
