Membership

We are trying to cleanup our membership. We went to RE about 3 years ago. We brought over historical membership (giving societies) in attributes as it would not conversion import in the Membership module. We are ready to start inputting that information into the membership module; however, there is new membership information on the membership tab from recent gifts given. I have read several different posts/knowledgebase/guides and am I understanding correctly that I can not delete and start the membership over with the historical information of joined date and upgrades/downgrades/etc.? I hope that I am misinterpreting what I am reading. Does any one have any suggestions and is there any way to do any importing in the membership module? If I can't change the joined on date, can I still get the historical information into the membership module?

I don't have the Membership module and so I can't advise you directly, but I would suggest making a fake test record (every org should have one to test new ideas out on) and see if you can get some data to import/migrate in the way that you want to see for the rest of your database. You'll have to dirty up the record to make it look like the records you're worried about first, and then see if you can manage to update it in a satisfactory way.

Although I have never done it, I imagine it would be possible to export the membership history you currently have in Raiser's Edge, edit it in a spreadsheet with the historical information you have, then re-import it. This will probably by fairly time-consuming and cumbersome. Blackbaud support could probably assist with providing resources for this. The main thing is to make sure you backup your database first, and dont add any membership data to RE until everything is edited and imported.
