Newsletters in Online Express

Options
I am new to Online Express and RE NXT. I was an I-modules client so I am use to a more sophsicated newsletter approach.

Is this where I create my newsletters in Emails?  Just doesn't look very professional to me.

Any guidance would be great, thank you!

  • Hi Allison,

Yes, we have taken a variety of approaches with e-mail newsletters. Our simple planned giving newsletter (quarterly) is sent from Online Express. To your point of professionalism, our graphic designer created a template for sections that we can upload as images to Online Express layouts. From there, we can plug in variable content. Also remember the linking functions! Our annual newsletter is far too much content to create in Online Express. Instead, we design a beautiful multi-page PDF layout, it lives on our webpage, and then we create a simplified e-mail blast that drives people to that linked page.

  • Yes, Emails is the section you would need to use. We ourselves are moving away from OLX and using MailChimp instead, because we've been frustrated with the limitations in subscriber preferences. We send so many different types of emails -- a college newsletter, a nonprofit newsletter, an alumnus obit, appeal newsletters, holiday engagement messages, planned giving updates, membership newsletters.... Without the ability to adjust their own subscription preferences, too many of our donors and alumni were simply hitting "unsubscribe" rather than emailing us to ask us to adjust their list preferences on their behalf.

If OLX could just add two vitally important things -- subscription preferences linked to solicit codes, and the ability to send to emails not included in RE (without, that is, having a dummy record with 3,000 emails on it) -- we would have loved to stay with OLX.
