Metrics and Timespan of Open counts and Click-Through emails

Options
Hi Community,

Does anyone know the metrics behind an Open count and click-through timeline report?

Here's my question:  we've been anaylzing our ENewsletter metrics and wonder about the timespan the report counts open and click through rates?  If a constituent doesn't open our email for a week, does that count?  If a constituent opens an email but doesn't click through to anything until a few days later, is it counted in the report OR are these numbers just recorded on the day the email is received?

I've looked through KnowledgeBase and the Community, but didn't know quite how to phrase the question in order to produce a good search record.

I'm hoping someone has a finite answer to share!

Hi Lisa - Our engineers confirm that email statistics begin when an email is sent and that any action performed on the message is captured during the life of the message.

In other words, any action that's taken on the message, regardless of the time passed from when it was sent or originally opened, will be recorded. The actions are recorded until the message is archived.

    Thanks,

    Colleen

    Hi Colleen,

Thanks for your response!  Great to know.  I'll pass along this info to my colleagues.

Colleen, could you elaborate on your last: "until the message is archived."?

As an example, I've recently been compiling metrics on the last three years of our monthly newsletter, and have found that, pretty consistently, the last update of statistics was 7 days after the send. Which is fine, and I wouldn't expect most recipients are opening or clicking beyond that time anyway, but, again, I'm wondering how "until the message is archived" is defined.

    Thank you!

    Gurukarm,

We collect data on email messages for up to a year and the delivery statistics that you see within Luminate are pulled within a timeframe set at the site data parameter (SDP) level.  Default is typical 7 days for the system to automatically update the statistics, but you have the ability to update the stats manually after that period within the delivery tab of email message under Update the delivery statistics for this email.  This will then update the latest stats being captured.  This is done to maximize system performance and task priority in order to allocate the best use of the data when it's needed.

Thanks Ryan, that's useful to know. But doesn't quite answer my question about "when the message is archived". Does that mean if a message is manually archived by us? or does it mean that after a year all statistics are archived and no longer available to us? (which I actually know to be true - even if the message can still be viewed in the campaign?)

    Cheers,

    Gurukarm

    Gurukarm,

Messages are only archived by the admins manually.  The system doesn't archive the messages, but does only capture data on that message for up to a year. I hope this explains the process of archiving a message and the data that is stored is available and can be updated.

Hey Ryan -  If I pull an email performance report on a quarterly basis through the email reporting functionality, is it only giving me data within that first, seven day period of data collection? Is the only way to see the updated data past the seven day period by going in to each individual delivery and updating the statistics?

    Hi Ryan,

I'd be interested in your response to Jordyn's question above. Also have another question: Can you provide more information about how and within what timeframe an action will be documented by LO? For example, when we pull donation actions (# and $) in an email report, both items do not line up with what we see when we look at our Google Analytics (we use UTMs to track donations). In the LO report, the donations are significantly lower than what we see in GA.

    Thanks,

    Emma
