Any other camps using RE?

Options
Hello,

We are a camp in Vermont which has used RE for many years. However, there is really no set-in-stone recommendation for how to best utilize RE for our needs. We have two girls camps, a boys' camp, a family camp and a day camp. We have generations of family members that attend. I'm interested in hearing how other camps track this information using RE, and in potentially initiating a consortium of data people working at camps, with the goal of sharing information and addressing data issues.

Thanks!

Mary Lou

  • Hello Mary Lou!  While I work at an animal welfare organization, we do offer summer camps for kids. We use Raiser's Edge and NetCommunity for registration, tracking the kids and their parents. While the camp staff do not use (in my not so humble opinion) RE as much as they could, it has been useful in communicating with parents and kids.

Each week of camp is a separate "event" (we have the events module) and preferences, allergies, emergency contact info, etc., is tracked in participant attributes.

I'm probably not a lot of help, but I look forward to other replies for more ideas!

    Cheers,

    Michelle
  • Thank you for your response!

First of all, I am an animal lover, so thank you for the work you
    do.

How big are your camps? Right now, we in
Advancement use RE, but the camp itself uses an Access database. (
!!!)  It’s a quagmire of double entry and margin for error.
And In RE as it is, we track the child’s affiliation with camp in
the Education tab. Another surprising thing when I came on board.
Apparently a contractor put that in place a while back. So I want
to review everything and make sure that we’re doing things in the
    most efficient way possible.
