Online Express donation from an Organization made by the owner-but she did not use the business name.

Options
I received an online donation from an individual that is in my system as the wife of a constituent. The address she used was different from her home address-therefore a new constituent record was created for her. When I looked up the address she used, it is actually their business address.

So, should I merge the wife into the couple's record and add the business address to their record. OR should I change the new donation record, made by the wife, to the business link

them through relationships.

What is your best practice for this??????

You have to determine whether the donation is from the Organization or the Individual - and if it's the Organization, is it a family foundation or other donor-advised org record that requires a soft-credit to the individual.  Looking at the donor history is also helpful unless this is the first time that a gift has been received from the constituent. Also, answering the question of who expects to get the tax-benefit from the donation is another way to determine how to process the gift.

  • Hi Sandra,

I recommend you create the wife as a new constitutent and add the buisness to her record with the address she provided.  Go to the husbands file and enter the spouse record, connect the wife's new constituent record and save.  This connects the husband to the wife and the wife to the business.  Be sure to designate the new address on the wife's file as the business address and the address on the husbands file should be designated as the home address.
