Identifying Donors Over Multiple Years

I need to identify donors that have given over a certain threshold over multiple years. Is there a way to query for this or use Access or Excel to identify said constituents using an export list?

Yep!

Start a new constituent query. In Criteria, scroll down to the Summary Information tree, and then open the Summary For Gift subtree, and then click on Total Amount of Gifts.

This opens up what is basically a gift query inside of your constituent query. Now, you said you wanted everyone who got above a certain threshold in each year you're looking at, so in the Criteria tab of the summary info screen, select "greater than or equal to" and put in your threshold as the value. Then go to the Filter tab and dial in your gift parameters (gift type, appeals, funds, whatever makes sense for you). For gift date, put in your year date range. So this gets you info on one year.

Then you'll have to redo this process for every year that you want to query on.

IMPORTANT: Do you want to include soft credits? If you do, make sure you go to Tools > Query Options > Gift Processing and select your soft credit options.

NOTE: If you're going to add summary criteria for a whole bunch of years, this query will absolutely take longer than expected to run. Assuming you're going to pipe this into an export, you might want to consider setting this up as a static query so that the export process runs a bit quicker.

Yes you can query this. Do you want to do something like everyone who has given a one-time gift of $1,000 or more in the last five years? Or more like have given $1,000 total per year? Your parameters will make a difference. I highly suggest looking into the training on queries to help you identify your parameters and successfully execute the query. Once the query is executed, you can use export to clean up the list and get the information you need in Excel.

In the output fields you can include the number of consecutive years giving from the gift summary fields. This is one of the instances where you could run an export directly ffrom the query. If you only want donors who have given a certain amount attach a query with that criteria to the report before you run it.

And yes, you can also just do this with the query and without the consecutive giving report!

You know, I always forget about this report. This is probably the easier way to get the data.

The Consecutive Giving Report is the method I would go with. You can create a static query from there.
