when i am entering employees from a company into eTapestry should i soft credit the company?  How do you do it to ensure that the company and employee are connected?  Just in relationships perhaps?

  • Hi,

Since we use soft credits for gifts between spouses on separate accounts and not for relationships, we use relationship Employee/Employer.

For soft credits, I use them on matching gifts, when a company gives a matching gift for an employee.  The employee gets a soft credit.  Without their gift, we wouldn’t have received the company gift.  I also use soft credits on giving campaigns, when employees give through a giving campaign.  I soft credit the giving campaign.  It’s nice information to have and explains how the money is coming in.  I wouldn’t soft credit a company or individual unless they were somehow involved in the donation coming to us.

I use relationships for family members, husband and wife (head of household) to eliminate double mailings.  I also use it for employer/employee and relatives if I know it but here it’s for informational purposes.  All these folks would be givers or somehow involved and would have history.  It’s additional information and nice to have.
