Gender identity

Options
Hello all,

Concordia University is currently exploring the option to include a gender type in CRM that is other than "Male" or "Female"  I was wondering if any school would mind sharing the following:

1) Do you have a value in your code table for the gender field that is other than "Male" and "Female"?  If yes, what are they?  If yes, how do you use these additional codes?

2) What is your internal policy on how to code the gender field in CRM?

3) What is your internal policy on how to code the Title and/or Title2 fields given if question #1 is yes.

Thanks,

Ellen

  • Hi Ellen,

UBC has a similar need to track a gender code other than Male or Female.  There’s good discussion about this going on in the Blackbaud Community and, last July, Blackbaud mentioned that something is being developed: https://community.blackbaud.com/forums/viewtopic/110/20687

And this has been cited as an item on the 2017 roadmap:

I don't know if a particular SP has been identified for the release yet.  Hope this helps!

    Hi all,

We are planning on shipping an update to the Gender table in 4.0 service pack 13 which is targeted to ship June 30th.  An additional option of "Other" will be added to the gender dropdown.  It will follow the same logic as unknown and not auto-assign titles. We are also adding additional capabilities to tie the "Other" value to an attribute table.    This gives organizations the flexbility to add additional gender values.

    Thanks!

  • Thank you Jason and Trit for your input.  Happy to learn that an outcome to discussions on this topic is not far away from being available in CRM.

    Best,

    Ellen
