Merge 2 funds to one fund

Hi,
A donor created 2 endowment funds since 1962. Many gifts were made toward these 2 funds. She decided to combine them to one fund. The business office merged them for the endowment report with the balance of these 2 funds. What would you suggest to do it in Raiser's Edge?

Paulette, First, you say business office has merged them together? I take that to mean you are not integrated with your accounting software, at least are not using FE? Making sure they are changing as needed would be crucial.
Two thoughts I've had:- Go to each gift and do an manual adjustment changing the fund.
- Export all the gift records and make needed changes and import them back in.

PauletteFrom a purely technical perspective, you should be able to do a Gift Global Change to change all records with one RE Fund to another Fund. How this might affect your historical reporting, etc. is a different issue that I don't have enough information to advise you about.

I think you want to keep the history on the gifts as is. I would suggest starting a new fund to describe the combination of the 2 previous funds and use that new fund going forward.

I think you want to keep the history on the gifts as is. I would suggest starting a new fund to describe the combination of the 2 previous funds and use that new fund going forward.
LindaI agree. It is usually best to start with a change like this going forward rather than change historical records.

I am not sure I agree. Since it is an endowed fund and Finance has now co-mingled the monies I would adjust all previous gifts to reflect the new fund. If this were a current use fund and previous monies were expended and only new gifts would go to this new fund - I would leave as is and do a new fund as suggested. An adjustment will show the original fund if ever needed to know what the original intent was.1
