Updating Address of a couple

Options
Hello -

Does anyone know of a short cut to update the address of a couple (Mr/Mrs) rather than having to go into each record seperately?

  • Open the address tab of one of the spouses and you'll see that you can view the spouse's addresses too. Open the address you want to change, change it and save it and when you choose to update the shared addresses too you'll see the spouse's address change when it's saved.

  • How do I activate the address sharing option??

     Patty Posey:

If the address sharing option has been used, you should not have to update both.  As you update one, a message would pop up asking if you want to update this address on any record that shares this address.

  • I don't think we have used the address sharing option - we are new to RE - would that have been done within our migration from our old system?

  • you are referring to one-off changes ?  You do have to open both records as far as I know, but you do not have to type the address over again, you can share it between the records.  When you are in Address you can Copy/Share from the Address drop down and choose the spouse you have already updated.
  • If you did a data migration, it's quite possible that the spouse addresses are not actively linked.

Fortunately, there's a plug-in to help you identify and fix these.

    • The information is in the Knowledgebase article 75215 but I've copied the relevant information below:

How to find linked spouse records that do not have a linked address

    Article Number: 75215

Note : Before you proceed with the following instructions, back up the database. If your organization integrates multiple Blackbaud products, refer to the Additional Requirements section of the backup article.

Note: This plug-in is compatible with The Raiser's Edge 7.50.638 and above. The plug-in reports on all linked spouse records that do not have linked addresses.

To run the plug-in, follow these steps:

    1.            Have all other users log out of The Raiser's Edge 7.

    2.            Download REPUNLINKSPADDR.EXE.

    3.            Save RepUnlinkSpAddr.exe to the local harddrive of any Raiser's Edge 7 workstation.

    4.            Double-click RepUnlinkSpAddr.exe.

    5.            When prompted, unzip the file into the \\RE7\\Plugins folder on the workstation. RepUnlinkSpAddr.exe is a self-extracting zip file that contains the plug-in files: RepUnlinkSpAd.dll and dobRepUnlinkSpAd.vbd.

    6.            Register RepUnlinkSpAd.dll on the workstation.

    7.            Log into The Raiser's Edge 7.

    8.            Click Plug-Ins from The Raiser's Edge Bar. The Plug-Ins screen appears.

    9.            Select Update Report Unlinked Spouse Addresses.

    10.          Click Begin.

    11.          Once the process completes, a dialog box appears with the location of a log file containing the results of the plug-in.
