Netcommunity Link Transaction - Need to have ability to not select education when linking

Options
Our university changed the name in 1996, however, many of the older alums still refer to it by it's old name.  When they sign up via Netcommunity and I am trying to link the constituent, I cannot deselect their education for the school name.  I do not want to add the old name back to the database since we have the correct education information in the database already.  When I try to link the constituent, I cannot do so because of the school name requirement.  I cannot uncheck the "Create New" box either.

Also, if the constituent adds a different email address, I only see where Netcommunity linking will update any current email values with a new value.  I do not want to overwrite what I already have.  I want to add the email as a new email.

I should be able to only select the options that I want to update or add.  Please fix this.

  • Hi Cammi,

Hope your week is going well! Currently constituent records in The Raiser's Edge require the School Name to be specified when adding other educational fields such as Class of. Accordingly, if any educational fields are marked to Include on the User Login part's registration page in Blackbaud NetCommunity, the School Name field is included and required as well. One alternative would be to use Constituent attributes on the User Login part to track the desired information, such as Class of. A global update can then be done in RE to move this information to the education button on the Constituent record.

Regarding the email address changes, we should receive a prompt in the plugin that there are profile updates to be processed. In the profile update grid we should see radio buttons at the bottom under the updated email address. If we select the button for "Add the downloaded information as a new address for this constituent", the new address will be added to the record instead of overwriting the existing information.

    Thanks!

  • I have modified the form to use the code table
for the school name so that the users cannot add some abbreviated
    form.

As for the email, the grid shows the re value
and the new value as if it is going to overwrite the RE value.

It just seems that when I trying to link the
records, I should be able to reject changes the user adds.
Sure, their information helps to identify the correct constituent,
but I don’t want it automatically entered onto the
    record.

Also, I have found no way at all to have RE or
any notification be sent to specific users when there are
transactions waiting in the queue in the Netcommunity section in
RE.  Is there no way to get some type of notification when a
new item is in there, whether it be memberships, events, profiles,
    etc?

  • Hi Cammi,

Whenever there is an update to a profile, such as a email address, through any type of transaction, we should be presented with a grid similar to the one below:

    64b9827bc0d6524c6d295ba243e4e573-huge-to

The grid will present the field that is being changed, the current value, and the new value. To ignore the update, we can uncheck the Process? box. If we'd like to process the change but add it to the record as an additional entry instead of updating the existing information, we'd need to select the radio button at the bottom for Add the downloaded information as a new address for this constituent.

Regarding the transaction notifications, Blackbaud NetCommunity can be configured to send staff notifications when there are specific transaction types. The Knowledgebase solution below outlines how to create staff notifications:

How do I create or edit email notifications in Blackbaud NetCommunity (includes video demo)

    Thanks!
