Hello!  We often get checks through giving portals where we have multiple gifts with different tributes represented.  What's the best way to reflect these gifts and these relationships?  Does a community member have any advice?

    We have been receiving more and more of these. Many Corps are managing their employee giving and matching gifts through these portals. I enter the employee giving gifts on the "portal" record (GL=Third Party Gift) and soft credit like crazy for each employee (specific amount) if in our system and also soft credit to each company represented.  Then I enter any matching gifts (GL= Corp Match) and soft credit the employee and each company represented. I use the "reference" field to write what it is, ie. "Benevity gift on behalf of Microsoft Matching Gifts" that way it shows on the soft credited gift records. When reporting you'll need to select the soft credit preferences.

    We turned off the option (online) for split gifts since there is not way to link a specific tribute to a specific fund. For example, $15 to the Music Fund in loving memory of John Doe and $25 to the Young Adult Fund in honor of Rabbi Stern. The gifts will split correctly for the funds so your GL stays accurate but the tribute acknowledgements will print both tributes on both funds; you cannot link a specific tribute to a specific fund. The easiest way we found to get around it is to turn off the multiple gift option online and they are forced to do a separate gift for each tribute and use the shopping cart so they can pay for all tributes at once.
