Best practice for a deceased primary, who is linked thru an Organization relationship

Options
I'm seeing suggestions for dealing with a record where the primary is marked deceased and the spouse is living.  The primary was linked to a foundation, serves as their Treasurer, and is someone who is a secondary contact at the organization.

We have the Membership module, which doesn't show soft credits.  Normally, for the spouse I would "add this individual as a constituent," which would allow me soft credits of gifts.  Then I could simply update the foundation record, and put an end date and uncheck that the primary was a contact.

Meanwhile, if I swap the primary and spouse names on the single record, the spouse name will be the foundation treasurer.

Maybe I simply check on the organizations found on the Relationships tab?  It just isn't clear if the widow is continuing involvement with the foundation.

Neither option seems to solve it.  Any ideas?

I would not swap the spouses -- like you say, you do not know if the widow has continued involvement and to what extent.  You can assume they probably have some relationship with that org, you just don't know how much.  My suggestion is to marked the decedent record as deceased, change their relationship status to not a contact and and end date.  Add the widow as a new relationship to the org with a relationship of possibly "spouse affilation".  If later down the road you find out that the widow did become more involved you can change/update the relationship.  I never swap names of spouses in records -- there is too much historical data that is related to one person vs. the other.  My two cents.
