Birthday Greetings

How can one set up a plan create and send Birthday Greetings to constituents? My boss was asking as she said she remembers hearing that was something that could be done. Any help in learning how to do this (if possible) is greatly appreciated.

I can't give any recommendation on the actual greeting piece, since you didn't specify whether you plan to send emails, direct-mail pieces, or hand-signed birthday cards. However, for the data pull, it is fairly simple.

Obviously, you have to have a birthdate for your consituents in the Birthdate field. Then, you create a query with the criteria: birthdate equals next month (any year). An export from this query will create a list of all constituents with a birthday the proceeding month. You can further refine the query according to constituency, of course - we only send birthday cards to our alumni for instance.

My Executive Director is looking for a way to setup an automatic birthday email through OLX. Can this be done? i.e. a person's birthday is 2/14 and OLX automatically sends an email birthday card on 2/14.

I don't think OLX can get QUITE as automated as that. I'm certain, though, that you would at the very least have to create an email for every day you wanted the email to go out, which seems like a lot of work, even if you only do it once a week.
