Gifts-in-Kind separated from Total Given monetarily

Options
We are looking for Best Practice ideas for separating out Gifts-in-Kind from the "Total Given" category in a constistuent's Prospect window.  The Total Given category lumps all gifts into one sum, and we would like it to show us monetary gifts only.  Ideas, please?

Thanks!

Can you add additional fields such an monatary gift and Gifts-In-Kind? What system are you working in?

We use a fund that we created for gifts in kind so we can easily remove that from reports and giving histories.

I'm in Raiser's Edge.  Is that what you mean by "system"? I don't know if adding additional fields in the gift record would make a difference in the Prospect window's Total Given category.  I'd like to look at the Prospect window and get a sense of how much my constituent has given in monetary donations.

Will using a fund make a difference for the Total Given category when one is looking at the Prospect window?  Yes, we could pull reports that separate the different type of donations out, but we're just looking for something that would differentiate them when looking at the Prospect window.

You can click on the "Total Given" text when in a constituents prospect tab and remove "Gift-in-Kind" gift type from the total given definition. I believe this is not available to change globally, but rather on a case by case basis.

  • I'm guessing you're using the Prospect module, which we don't have, but I assume you have the same options of "Include All, "Include Selected" for gift-types in creating the totals as you would have everywhere else in RE. Before I started here, they used a fund number for all GinKs and it wreaked havoc on reporting - since GinKs could be going to the Permanent Collection, to the annual auction, or to a department. They were also given the gift-type of In Kind, so I don't know why they duplicated that information in the fund. I'd vote for the gift type, and if you can't exclude those in total giving in the Prospect Tab, then BB needs to fix that!

If you are referring to the Prospect Profile report under Profiles, List and Directories -- it states on the Gifts Summary that its configuration is based on how you have configured your gifts/gift entry.  So if you enter gifts-in-kind as GIK and not Cash or Other, then they should be excluded from the Gifts Summary on the report.  I just did  a little test run with a couple of records knew did and did not have GIKs and it looks correct.
