Data entry and BBDM

Options
This question is BBDM related but as it affects data entry in a big way I'm looking for feedback here.  I also posted in the BB CRM community.  We launched BBDM December of 2016 and our first BBDM created appeal (marketing effort) will be hitting soon.  We get a fair number of responses to appeals where the donor returns their gift in the return envelope only no response device.  The envelope has the appeal code on it but nothing else, The fnder number and source code are on the response device.  What is the best way to enter the gift via REBatch when all you have is the name, address, and appeal id so that it ties back to the marketing effort in BBDM for analysis and reporting.  Also don't have the package that the mailing was tied to so do we create a generic package in RE?

Looking for any and all feedback, suggestions, referrals, offers of free drinks, etc.

Thanks in advance.

We don't have BBDM, so I can't help you with that part of it.  But one thing we have had happen here is we get a gift out of the clear blue sky - not because of any direct appeal.  We created an appeal named "Improviso" to put 'unsolicited' gifts into, instead of arbitrarily throwing it into some other Appeal.  In your situation, you know the appeal, but don't know the package, in which case you may want to create a package per appeal that indicates as much, like UNK for Unknown or something like that.
