Hello everyone,


We're looking for an experienced Development Information Systems manager for our organization and have had surprisingly few applicants. Can anyone out there recommend a search firm that specializes in placing experienced Raiser's Edge staff at nonprofits?  Or a consultant in the Los Angeles area who we could explore hiring as a temporary solution until we're able to fill the permanent full-time position?

    I don't know of any search firms but you could check with JCA (http://jcainc.com/) or Heller (http://teamheller.com/), they might know someone interested, be able to help get the word out and help on a temporary basis until you find someone.

    Before, or as, you engage a search firm you might reconsider the title.  Information System usually implies something more than a Database Manager, which is what you are really looking for.  It's an instant turn-off because orgs asking for IS typically want candidates who have SQL experience, which the average experienced RE db doesn't have, or some kind of other computing background.  A database manager doesn't need to college or IT educated to be successful, but they should have more than 1 year experience in RE.  Ask for more RE experience because it implies you are going to pay for their experience.  Many perform analytics and just don't call it that or think of it that way, so ask instead for someone who has financial reporting experience and preferably with RE compatible tools like Crystal Reports.
