How can I prevent deceased Acknowledgeees from appearing in Honor/Memorial queries?  I have two decease individuals that keep appearing with other living family members.

    Rita,

SInce no one else has jumped in...we don't have the tribute module so don't know if there's a difference or how an Acknowledgee is entered.  With relationships there's a place to mark a person as deceased.  Is there for Acknowledgee?

If so, then in the query I would think unchecking the 'include deceased' might do it.  If they aren't filter by that constituent filter you may need to add criteria to your query to exclude them.  If there's not a an option to mark them as deceased, you may need a code of some type.
  • Thank you for your thoughtful recommendation. It appears to pull from the constituent record, and the constituent is marked as deceased. There was no option to exclude deceased Acknowledgees nor to select if they are deceased or not. I have begun coding the Addressee name as DECEASED-DO NOT MAIL.

  • Hi - we don't have the tribute module either, but when we mark someone as deceased, we always check the addressee and salutation and make an alteration as necessary.  We often "trade" the primary constituent out for the surviving spouse so that the record basically stays the same.  We don't soft credit anything, really - we treat the couple as one consistuent (which gets sticky with donations of art for our auction when both members of the household are artists!).  Our acknowledgement letters (and everything else, for that matter) go to the Primary Addressee, so we are constantly checking that for accuracy.  If a single person dies, we usually check everything possible - Inactive, Do Not Solicit, uncheck Send Mail - just to make sure we don't solicit them. It's a hassle for everyone concerned.  And I agree with JoAnn - check the queries and the set-up tabs for the reports or letters where these folks are appearing.  The combination of that and the addressee/salutation should fix the problem.

  • Thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately, we are not able to "trade" the deceased with the living spouse's name because it will affect our alumni records and all other associated information. But what I have done is to change the addressee name to DECEASED-DO NOT MAIL, and that will work in the future.
