RE Mobile 3.0 Early Adopter Program - Looking for Volunteers

Hello Raiser’s Edge Community!

We are currently in the process of recruiting candidates for an Early Adopter Program for the upcoming RE Mobile application release. My goal with this post is to find a handful of volunteers that are willing to start using the new version of the mobile application (instead of the existing version available in the Apple Store and Google Play store) and report back with any positive or negative feedback before we make it generally available to everyone. Unlike the RE 7.96 EAP program, this will be a “true EAP”, meaning the testing tasks will be completed using your live RE environment (as opposed to a copy in a test environment). The reason for this fundamental difference is two-fold:

1. The RE Mobile application can be provided to a single user at an organization without impacting the use of the currently released version of the application for other users

2. RE Mobile primarily “reads” data from your database, so there really is no real risk of anything going irreversibly wrong in your live database during this program

So while the risk associated with performing these tests against live data is low, I did want to be up front about it with any potential participants.

We are currently planning a two week EAP program and will provide you with tasks each week. Exploratory testing and general everyday use of the app is also welcome and encouraged during this time period. We anticipate this to require somewhere between 2 - 5 hours a week for those included. Do we need to be running 7.96 for an optimal test, or does the version matter?

Great question! I should have made that more clear. The version of Raiser's Edge that you are running does not matter for the RE Mobile EAP. If you already have RE Mobile up and running on boarding for this EAP should be a very simple process regardless of your RE version.

Great questions Alan. We are currently looking for EAP volunteers that current (or are willing to) use the RE Mobile application on all supported device types (iPhone, iPad, Android phones, Android tablets). Depending on the device you are using, it may actually be possible to keep the current production version of the RE Mobile application installed, however that hasn't been thoroughly tested. So for the time being, I will be asking that volunteers assume that during the EAP, the new version of RE Mobile will be installed instead of the current version, not in addition to.

Thanks, Jarod. In asking about running the current RE Mobile version I was thinking more about the EAP connecting to the same server/database as other devices running the current release version. We have several users using the current release version of RE Mobile, and we want them to be able to continue connecting to our database while we also test the EAP with different devices. Can they do so at the same time as other devices are using the EAP to connect to the same server/database?
