RE Freezes while trying to print

Options
RE keeps freezing every time I try to print.  I have worked with support and there is nothing wrong with my query/choice of constituent/or letter.  This problem started just recently and is intermittent.  I can print up to 20 letters and I am fine or it will freeze with each letter and I have to use my task manager to sign off, sign back on, etc. after each letter. Per RE support, this is  supposedly caused by recent upgrades to the citrix receiver (I am hosted in Boston)   I was further told that the problem is the advanced printer settings which have been selected  on my printer and I was told to contact my IT person to have this setting changed.  We have no IT department.  Unfortunately, it was HP who set up my printer in this manner because when I initially purchased  the printer (1 year ago) I found that RE did not support this printer and a second driver had to be installed by HP so that I could print.  (and finding someone at HP to do this took endless chats and phone calls)  Before I go through this process again with , does anyone know for sure that my changing these settings will in fact cause the freezing to cease?

Sorry for the long question.

  • Oh, ugh. Ugh ugh ugh!

I don't have any direct experience with printing issues, but I have had problems in the past where Microsoft updates something and suddenly things don't function in RE. Although you can't guarantee that contacting HP will work, it sounds like it might be time to call in the professionals. Since HP set up your driver, they SHOULD be able to look at all the settings and figure it out.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of printer is it? It seems odd to me that a printer just flat out wouldn't support RE (unless you're using a dot matrix from the '90s).

Good luck, and may the tech odds be ever in your favor.
  • I'm having a problem at home with my HP printer not printing color text from MS Access (just got Office365 at home...ug), although images print fine in color.  My workaround is to print from Access to a PDF and then print that to my HP.  Could that maybe be at least a temporary solution for you?  If you don't have a pdf writer/printer, CutePDF Writer is a free program, installs like a printer, and works great.
