My compcated way to grab IDs from the IMPORT Exception report

Options
Hi RE Community,

We are importing gifts and new constituents gleaned from our PayPal oriented webpage. We get a spreadsheet with basic info that I transform into an import doc with all the required fields. Most of the donors are already in my RE Database but we cannot see that until we run the import validation. The Exceptions Report lists the possible duplicate IDs. What I need to do is then append the spreadsheet with the identified IDs. However, hand entering is cumbersome and I cannot get the report to save in a workable manner to grab the IDs. I figured out that if I Export the Exception Report as an Excel Workbook Data-Only file I can copy the IDs column to Word and then delete the "Line Break Code" so that the text is on one line. Then usintg the Text to Column function I get all the IDs into one column and can copy and paste the IDs to the spreadsheet and IMPORT the gifts to existing records. It seems to me that there MUST be an easier way to add the IDs to the spreadsheet. Any ideas? Thank you all.

  • Susan, on the summary tab of the import, click "Create exception file of records not updated/imported" and enter a file name and path.  I usually copy and paste the file path and name from the General tab then add an "x" to the beginning of the file name so I know it's the exception file.  This will also create a file the same format as your original import file, and you can then use the exception file to import/update existing records.

Ok, So the exported Exception File in CSV or Excel still has the Possible match (ID): 205322 on the second line and the only way to add it to the import file is to hand enter it or  put it in a word file and delete the Manual Line Breeak Character ^l . Then Text to Column Validation error: Duplicate record found.  Possible match (ID): 205322  to break out the ID and copy paste it into the spreadsheet. still kinda comlicated. What am i missing:? How do you put the IDs in when the Constituent Import identifies the record?
