Link interest to existing group

Options
Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to link a new email interest to an existing interest opt in group?

    HI Joseph,

I do not think that is possible. However, you could use query to create a group joining the exisisting opt-in group with the new opt-in group.
  • Hi Joseph,

I guess the question is, why would you want to do this? Not so much if it is possible.

If you want to get all the constituents from one interest to another you could do two things.

    1. You could make it a default interest, which will put all your constituents and future constitutents in the new e-mail interest opt in group.

    2. Use a Mail Merge and export the existing opt in group and import that export into the new e-mail interest.(updated 8/16/2016) Note: when adding to an interest group, you only need to import the interest_id, the group_id will be automatically populated when added to the interest.

Is that what you are trying/looking to do?

    Thanks,

    Phil

Just to clarify, you shouldn't add people right to the opt-in group. These periodically rebuild which would wipe out your additions. You should use the segmentation or custom cons import to add them to the *interest*.

And with the mail merge export part - I believe that users can be in the opt-in group AND the opt-out group. If I recall correctly, when a user opts-out of an interest they are added to opt-outs, but not removed from opt-ins. You could use Query to make a group of those in opt-in and NOT in opt-out, and then mail merge from that.
  • Thanks for the catch!

I updated in my original post.
