Hi Melissa,
Do you have any idea what courses will be covered in the Master
exam? I want to cover all of the bases before my current training
subscription expires. Also, do you guys have a projected time frame
for the release of the exam? Again, I am hoping I will be able to
take it under my current training subscription.
Thanks,
Lauren

Also, will it be one exam or 5 exams (like the Professional level is the 4 badge exams and then the overall)? That makes a big difference on the cost ($100 vs $500) if you don't have a subscription.0

I got my Associates certification last year and got the email saying it's about to expire, so I did some checking into getting the Fundamentals cert. Maybe I'm missing something, but I left Blackbaud's site absolutely astounded. I work for the foundation of a not-for-profit health system. The foundation itself has only 3 1/2 data people who really need to understand Raiser's Edge - we then teach the fundraisers what they need to know to do their jobs. We had the mid-level training package, but when we shelled out the money to go to RENXT, it was decided to drop that in order to be able to afford NXT and still keep the lights on. I believe, after having worked in Raiser's Edge every day for the last 4 years, I can pass the Fundamentals cert without doing any of the webinars. However, if all 3 1/2 of us needed to do the webinars and then the cert, it would cost our not-for-profit somewhere around $6,700. Each year. For 3 1/2 people. As it is, our boss sends 3 or 4 people to BBCON each year for somewhere around $1,600 per person. Did I mention we're a not-for-profit?
Am I missing something? Yes, it would probably be a great thing to put on my resume', if I ever intended to leave, but...
Hi Heather,
I appologize for the confusion. You do not need to take the Fundamentals courses before taking the new Raiser's Edge Fundamentals Exam. We recommend taking the Fundamental courses if people are newer to Raiser's Edge or want to ensure that they are using the system correctly and efficiently.
I agree that Blackbaud Champions is a great program to earn Certification. You can also earn discounts for training and for bbcon.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'm happy to help.
MelissaMelissa, how does one actually join Blackbaud Champions? I've signed up for this at the last two BBCONs, maybe three, but I'm apparently still not a member.

FINALLY took the Fundamentals exam and passed! The only questions I missed on the whole test were in the section on Mail, which is pretty much the one area of RE that I have never used over almost ten years working with RE (no, I don't know how I avoided it either), so I'm not surprised. It's quite gratifying to have the validation that comes with passing.2

Thank you for your continued interest in our Raiser’s Edge Certification program! We periodically reevaluate the best method for validating a candidate’s level of product proficiency. That’s why we’ve enhanced the value of our Fundamentals and Professional certifications, with supplemental certification badges that exhibit mastery in specific product areas. We may add another level of certification in the future, but our current plan focuses on expanding the certification badges offering.

As a nonprofit professional, there are numerous benefits to getting Blackbaud Certified, like joining a group of professionals who are experts in The Raiser’s Edge and achieving credentials recognized as the industry standard. You can also use your Blackbaud Certification in The Raiser’s Edge (bCRE) to validate your credentials, build your resume, and advance your career.
If you have completed any of the three levels of bCRE:
- The Fundamentals level of bCRE, recognized as bCRE
- The Professional level of bCRE, recognized as bCRE-Pro
- The Master level of bCRE, recognized as bCRE-Ma
The badge will appear under your profile picture when you post in the community.
If you are interested in learning more about earing your Blackbaud Certification in The Raiser’s Edge (bCRE), go here.
Once you've claimed your badge, feel free to show it off by posting a little note about what you learned during your certification process on this thread. And if you have questions about earning your bCRE, this conversation thread is a great place to start asking.
Is there going to be a way to distinguish between bCRE and bCRE-Pro?

Heather, I have been shocked and disappointed at the lack of financial opportunity that I thought a certification might afford. This industry just does not reward you financially for your skills, degrees, certifications, knowledge, etc. Look at it more as a point of personal pride and be surprised if it turns out to be other than that.

I passed my professional certification test last December, but didn't ever get a pro badge. Is there one or is the <b> the only badge offered now? I've seen others with a <pro> badge on their profile(s) so I was just checking.
Thanks.

Do you have an update when the master's will be available to take?0

Thanks for checking in about a Master's exam. We are monitoring the adoption rate for the Professional exam before adding a higher level. Once the Professional exam reaches a higher threshold, we will look into releasing the Master's level certification. We will certainly post an announcement when the time comes!
Thanks,
Jennifer0 -
Hmmmmm...that's an interesting way to allow people to take the exam.
I would like to take it regardless of the rate for the Professional exam.1 -

I would like to take it regardless of the rate for the Professional exam.Looking at the monthly certification announcements, it seems that the number of people taking the Pro exam is about 10-15% that of the Fundamental exam. If there was a similar drop-off from the Pro to Master level, I can see why Blackbaud wouldn't want to expend time and effort developing an exam that might only be taken by three people per month. A shame, but it makes sense.

I have to say, I'm still a little peeved that there isn't a way to see an overview or take a practice exam for the Professional certification unless you have a Learn subscription, which I'm guessing the vast majority of people do not. It was frustrating enough not to get any feedback from the Fundamentals test: I passed on the first try, but would have liked to know at least which categories my wrong answers were in - did I mess up on Queries or Gifts or what? Just as you can buy books to study for the GREs, including practice tests, I think there should be something from Blackbaud for that. I'm OK with the $100 test fee, but I think bb could make a lot of money on a study guide with sample questions. I'd be happy to buy that, since there's no chance in the world that my organization is going to get a Learn subscription. Have they looked into pricing for online classes - one-offs that could be purchased for less than one of the subscriptions? My organization isn't going to send me to anymore bbcon events, I'm guessing, but they might pay for a couple of classes, instead.1

I received my RE Fundamentals Certificate badge and I'm on my way to becoming a Pro! The questions are somewhat tricky but the classes are informative and the instructors are always nice and able to explain anything you may have questions on. I've been using Raiser's Edge less than a year and I'm already on my way to becoming a professional.1
