Tutorials – Where Did They Go

Options

It has been a while since I have used on of Blackbaud’s online tutorials, but I have decided I want to go ahead and take the certification test.  I have been using RE since 2003 so I feel pretty good about attempting the test, but I thought I would just look over the tutorials, particularly for Mail, before I registered for the test.  However, I’m having trouble finding the tutorials in Blackbaud University.

All of the classes that appear to be offered are 3-hour instructor led classes.  I really don’t feel I need that at this time nor do I have three hour blocks of time to spare at this time.  Do the online, self-paced tutorials still exist and if so, does anyone have a link to the tutorials?

Hunting through Blackbaud University I could only find two online tutorials for Raiser Edge: Introduction to Using Data and Introduction to Entering data

It’s been a long week so hopefully I’m just not seeing what is right in front of me, but if this is a shift away from online self-paced learning, I’m very sad to see it.  Those tutorials were instrumental to my learning when I first started working with Raiser’s Edge and they have been helpful in training new staff.

  • Here's a link to the Curriculum pdf (with clickable links).  The green monitor icons indicate free videos.  In Training Central, you can search by type of class...including the Library of tutorials.  I believe you do now need to sign in to Blackbaud.com.  For the Fundamentals exam, if you've been using RE since 2003, you probably won't have any trouble passing it.

    Hi Jen and Robin,

Thank you Jen for linking to the training catalog! To clarify, there are 2 eLearning videos available to people without a Learn subscription. If you have a Learn subscription (or Raiser's Edge NXT), you can take any of our eLearning videos that begin with "Basics of". With the Learn More subscription, you can also take the eLearning videos that being with "Managing".

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'm happy to help.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for the clarification, Melissa.  I could only go off of the price listed in Training Central...I know those with an amount marked out are those for which there is a cost that is covered by our subscription, but I did not realize that everything under Learn Basics, which from what I see in TC all come up as $0.00 (not zeroed out per our subscription), were not readily available to everyone.  =)  Someone had told me a long while ago that Learn Basics was, or would shortly be, available to everyone.  So perhaps a 4th column, before Learn Basics, would be good, to show what is available to you if your org doesn't have a subscription (which was us until a month ago).

I will say it is confusing and difficult to find what I'm looking for in Training Central.  I use that Curriculum page almost exclusively to find and get to what I'm looking for.

    Jen,

Thanks for much for the link to the Curriculum pdf.  We do have a Learn Everything subscription so I don't know why I'm was having so much trouble finding the tutorials.  Having the exact name of the courses to type in the search box is working great.

  • Another link you may find helpful is this one (from a blog post written by Melissa), which lists all of the recommended classes before taking the Fundamentals Certification, and each of the four Badge Exams that must be passed before you are eligible to take the Professional Certification.  The exams are all included in your subscription as well.  I recommend brushing up on areas that you don't ever use, then attempting the exam and seeing how you do.  If you don't pass, then you have 90 days to take the relevant classes before trying again.  And if you still don't pass, you can re-register for the exam (another 2 tries) after a 30-day waiting period.
  • For some of the WebEx training - how can you request/know of courses being offered ahead-of-time.

All the courses I am interested in list:

No sessions for this event are scheduled at this time.

    Thanks.
